The introduction of literacy and numeracy corequisites in 2024 by the New Zealand government will have significant impacts upon long-term international students seeking an NCEA qualification with university entrance (UE).

With full implementation by 2026, New Zealand schools will now be required to assess the English and academic capabilities of international students they are enrolling.

In June, AEAS Director, Marketing & Business Development, Brett McGeorge attended the biennial SIEBA Hui conference for New Zealand schools in Auckland. Attended by Directors of International Programs, the AEAS booth was very busy, and the interest and uptake of AEAS Testing has been high as schools seek to tighten their entrance requirements and bolster the quality of the pathways on offer to international students.

Agents recruiting for New Zealand schools should be aware that a rapidly growing number of New Zealand schools are introducing the AEAS Test as a requirement of entry for long-term, NCEA pathway students.

A full list of schools accepting AEAS Testing can be viewed here.
