AEAS School Preparation Course

How does the AEAS School Preparation Course work?

This 42 hour course includes six modules (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, Vocabulary, Review) and is delivered face to face or online.

The course can be delivered 1 to 1, 1 to 2 or in small groups.

There are different curricula for Years 10-12, Years 7-9, and Years 4-6 based on Australian academic year levels. Click here to view a Country, Age and Year Level Conversion table.

AEAS issues a certificate to students following successful completion of the course. Successful completion of the course is also listed on the first page of the AEAS Report, providing additional information to the school the student wishes to attend.

The course is suitable for international students intending to study abroad and students enrolling in international schools.

What skills will students develop?

The AEAS School Preparation Course offers real experiences of learning in a western classroom.

The AEAS School Preparation Course is designed to assist students to make a successful and smooth transition into life and learning in all English medium schools – whether they are in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Canada, USA or an international school in a country where English is not the primary language. Students will acquire English language skills while also experiencing the style of learning commonly used in western or English medium classrooms.

Students will develop independent study and organisational skills that will enable them to take personal responsibility for improving their English language skills and in the long term succeed in an English speaking education system. The course also focuses on improving interpersonal skills to foster greater interaction between international students and local students and teachers when studying in Australia and other countries. Students will have a greater understanding of the Australian style of learning and common western culture on completion of the course, and will have greater confidence when expressing themselves in English.

When should I study the AEAS School Preparation Course?

How is the AEAS School Preparation Course structured?

The AEAS School Preparation Course consists of six modules.  Students can choose to study a stand alone module, a full set of modules or mix and match modules. This enables the course to be tailored to the individual needs of each student.

It is recommended students complete the six modules to gain maximum benefit, to receive the completion certificate and for this to be listed on the front page of the student’s AEAS Report.

The course covers cultural information and learning methods which is underpinned by the five English language skills

  1. Reading
  2. Writing
  3. Speaking
  4. Listening
  5. Vocabulary

There is also a Review Module (module 6) where students complete mini assessments to consolidate the skills acquired, to determine students’ performance and to become familiar with the style and format of the AEAS Test.

Years 4-6

In the Years 4-6 curriculum, students gain experience studying in an international educational environment through learning about topics that are applicable to these settings.

Western teaching and learning styles are synthesised into the course to help develop learning skills required to succeed in and beyond the classroom.

Students also learn strategies to maintain a healthy balance between study and living overseas or at an international school as a young learner.

Years 7-9

In the Years 7-9 curriculum, students learn about cultures they will be exposed to when learning in a western style education system similar to that found in Australia, New Zealand and most international schools.

The units cover the style of learning commonly used in western classrooms with many opportunities to practice the skills taught.

Students also gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities and long term benefits of pursuing their education as an international student.

Years 10-12

In the Years 10-12 curriculum, students build on existing knowledge of western education and focus on independent learning.

They strengthen their skills in self directed learning by making meaningful connections with their peers through collaborative activities.

Students gain a deeper knowledge of the importance of sport and recreation in a balanced lifestyle which is vital for a successful pathway to studying and living abroad or transitioning to an international school.
